We still need to get a better effort from our front-runners. We have to be tougher mentally to be a more competitive team. Senior Captains: Allison Hause, Allison Hughes, Natalie Gofton, and Jacqueline Taylor all had solid races. Sophomore Natalie Davies had another great race to place fifth.  We ran as a team and improved. In all, 10 runners that ran for us today on varsity won medals. We continue to improve, and we are getting stronger with each meet. We must get mentally tougher if we want to get better as the season progresses."

Seven of the teams in the field were at last year’s division 2 or division 3 state meets.”  Senior Captains: Allison Hause, Allison Hughes, Natalie Gofton, and Jacqueline Taylor all had outstanding races with each running season-best times. Sophomore Riley Thorburn had another great race to place 11th in leading our pack. Sophomore Natalie Davies, Junior Thea Higgins, Junior Emily Chizek, Junior Myranda Montoye, and Freshman Kate Gaiser all recorded season best times to complete a fine day for the Bulldogs.          “We ran as a team and improved our times. We ran with tired legs since we had a big SEC meet on Thursday. All of the 10 runners that ran for us today had PRs or were very close to a season best. The girls really showed their toughness today. I was very proud of their efforts. We continue to improve, and we are getting stronger with each meet. Hopefully, this trend will continue as the season progresses."

We had a number of girls who needed a meet to find out some things about racing on the varsity. I think they learned a lot about what it takes to run on the varsity. We have a lot of work to do if we want to be a competitive team.       Sophomore Riley Thorburn led the way for us placing 9th with a time of 21:35. Senior Captain Allison Hause ran a strong race to place eleventh at 21:53. Sophomore Natalie Davies ran a strong race to place 13th at 21:58. Finally, juniors Emily Chizek and Thea Higgins ran strong races to win their first varsity medals ever.       Five of our top seven were running their first varsity race ever. We were happy to perform as well as we did. We learned a lot about where we are and what we need to do. It was a good learning experience for the team. We will improve as the season progresses and hopefully get stronger for our next meet.”, Clarke concluded.

All of our varsity relay teams ran well. The race was halted before all the runners finished due to a thunderstorm. Senior Captain Allison Hause led the way for us with a fine time of 12:25. Sophomore Riley Thorburn had a fine time of 12:49. It was a very humid day, so times ran slowly for us. It was a great way to start the season.  We have been working very hard in practice this week. I was amazed that they ran as well as they did after that week of practice. We still have a long way to go to become the team we want to be.
