This was the tightest fought pair of contests in my coaching career. Both meets came down to within 2 points. Three of the five field events involved tiebreakers (all of which we lost), and a few other races had us on the short end of the stick by less than a second. Many guys stepped up and had season-best performances to keep us in the hunt, but we simply cannot give away crucial close points if we want to win. Another learning experience for these guys. Anyhow, there were some highlights:
- The distance crew once again carried the load, outscoring both teams by a combined score of 60-4.
- Hunter White had an outstanding day, placing well in all 3 sprint events, capped by a sub-52 second 400 race. A great competitive effort.
- Ronnie Buford won the shot put in his first ever track meet.
- James Mida won the discus and continues to be a motivational leader.
I hope that these guys remember and internalize the lessons on training, preparation, and execution that can be gleaned from an experience like this. We will regroup and move forward towards post-season goals.
